Installation

Instructions
Heartland BioComposites recommends using Composite Screws available
at quality lumber and building products retail centers that sell PrairieFence
products. If your preferred retailer does not currently stock the composite
fasteners please ask for them or email sales@heartlandbio.com for
more information. Insert screws at least 1” from edges of PrairiePicket™.
- PrairieFence™ is as easy to work with as natural wood and if necessary,
it can be interchanged with traditional wood pickets on existing wood post
and rail systems.
- PrairieFence™ can be cut, drilled, routed and nailed using standard hardware
and tools.
- Heartland’s PrairiePicket™ can be installed on 8’ centers using quality wood rails or 6’ centers using Heartland’s 1.0” x 5.5” (PrairieDeck™) or 1.5” x 3.5” (PrairieRail™) composite fence rails.
- Heartland recommends using the 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" length fasteners
for installing PrairiePickets on
the 1.0” x 5.5” rail/fence topper or the 1 5/8” length for installing PrairiePickets on
the 1.5” x 3.5” rail.
- Heartland’s PrairiePost™ should be set in concrete to properly ensure it won’t shift and does not require slipping over a wood or steel post for rigidity, which is the case with other composite or vinyl products.
PrairieFence™ Care and Maintenance
General Stains and Cleaning Recommendations
All building materials in exterior applications require some degree of maintenance and cleaning. Most stains are caused naturally or environmentally and do not constitute a manufacturing defect including water stains. Heartland BioComposites recommends the use of composite deck cleaners available at most lumber yards and home centers for cleaning PrairieFence™ products. Carefully read and follow all instructions before using composite deck cleaners on PrairieFence™ products.
Mold and Mildew
Mold and mildew are part of the environment and naturally occur. They form on virtually all surfaces and materials such as wood, steel, brass, stone and composite products. If mold or mildew occurs on PrairieFence™ products, it can be removed using composite deck cleaners available at most lumber yards and home centers. Carefully read and follow all instructions before using composite deck cleaners on PrairieFence™ products.
